A 60 Year Countdown to my First Blog
Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
60 years ago, I managed to write my name on the bottom of a drawing which my mother sent to my grandmother. This was rewarded with a set of crayons sent to me by my grandmother by return of post. If you like, my first payment for writing. So, some further examples:
50 years ago – My school published a poem of mine in the annual school journal. My first published work.
40 years ago – The Warminster Journal published a review that I had written of a jazz concert at the Athenaeum Theatre. My first newspaper piece.
30 years ago – I was writing press releases with abandon, many of which were published verbatim even by the leading national newspapers. I was also working with a radio and TV producers on news reports and documentaries. I thought like a content creator, I wrote like of content creator, I failed to think of myself as a content creator. Content is king as the old saying goes.
20 years ago – I was finding out about the master’s degree in publishing which I was shortly to embark upon.
10 years ago – My writing revolved mainly around health and safety policy documents and producing related training and development materials. As a sideline, I was spending a lot of time with a publisher designing and setting some high-value limitededition books.
0 years ago – My First Blog.
